Around P807,000-worth of high-grade “kush” marijuana were discovered inside popular Labubu stuffed toy keychains during an investigation made by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) Port of Clark.

According to the BOC Port of Clark, the shipment was declared as keychains that arrived on November 15 from Hong Kong and was bound for Biñan, Laguna.

The BOC’s X-ray Inspection Project flagged the shipment after scanners showed suspicious images. During a follow-up K-9 inspection by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on November 19, the shipment was positive for illegal drugs.

This prompted the BOC to conduct a full physical examination.

Authorities discovered two boxes of Labubu keychains, each containing two sealed pouches of dried leaves and fruiting tops. Laboratory analysis confirmed the contents were tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive compound found in marijuana.

Customs Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno praised the swift coordination of Port of Clark personnel and enforcement agencies, saying the operation reflects the agency’s commitment to blocking illegal drugs at the country’s borders.

District Collector Jairus Reyes likewise lauded frontline officers for their profiling and detection efforts, emphasizing that the Port of Clark remains on high alert against all forms of drug smuggling.

The BOC issued a Warrant of Seizure and Detention for violations of Sections 118(g), 119(d), and 1113 of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act, in relation to Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.

Officials said the operation aligns with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to strengthen border security and intensify anti-drug operations nationwide.
