LTFRB eyes frontline services digitalization

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) announced Friday that it will begin the digitalization of its frontline services nationwide starting next month.

LTFRB chairperson Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II said the initiative is in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s directive for the immediate digital shift of government services.

"That instruction for the immediate digitalization of government services will start next month as far as the LTFRB is concerned," Mendoza said. "And we will start in our frontline services."

Information Technology experts are finalizing the developed system, which will initially pave the way for online transactions starting with the confirmation of vehicles for public transportation.

The launch comes less than two months after Mendoza assumed leadership of the agency.

Mendoza stressed the urgency of the shift to improve service efficiency for public land transportation clients.

"There is a sense of urgency to make all the transactions of the LTFRB fast and comfortable to all our tens of thousands of clients... who all have the same wish... faster and better processing," he said, adding that the improved services will eventually benefit millions of Filipino commuters.

In addition to digitalization, Mendoza announced that the LTFRB Board is initiating measures to address a backlog of 37,000 pending motions and petitions, some dating back two years.

Mendoza vowed that the board is working to consolidate and address all of these petitions before the end of the year and committed that the agency's digitalization efforts will gradually expand until all transactions are covered.
