A man was convicted for the illegal possession of 1.48 tons of shabu by the Regional Trial Court in Olongapo City, marking the successful prosecution of the largest drug bust in recent Philippine history.

The court, in a decision dated 19 November 2025, found accused Kong Ket Koon guilty beyond reasonable doubt for violating Section 11, Article II of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 (R.A. No. 9165).

The conviction stemmed from a maritime interdiction operation conducted on 19 June 2025, which led to Kong's apprehension and the seizure of 1,480,395.2 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride.

The case moved swiftly through the legal system, beginning with an inquest investigation just two days after the arrest.

The Department of Justice commended the prosecution team for the speed by which the case was tried, which began with the inquest investigation on 21 June 2025.

Barely half a year from the time the accused was apprehended, the prosecutors were able to secure the conviction of Kong Ket Koon.

The panel of prosecutors who led the successful conviction comprised Assistant Prosecutor (ASP) Mary Grace V. Pulido-Sadian, Prosecution Attorney (PA) Klarisa U. Arcillas, and Prosecution Attorney (PA) Ryan E. Leocarid.
