The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said on Sunday that it continues to conduct relief operations in the Visayas region as Secretary Rex Gatchalian revisited provinces affected by Typhoon Tino. His visits aim to ensure that timely and adequate support reaches families whose homes and livelihoods were severely damaged.

During his recent visit to Negros Occidental, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led a situation briefing with Cabinet secretaries, national agencies, and local chief executives to assess the typhoon’s impact and expedite rehabilitation measures for central Negros Occidental.

Secretary Gatchalian stressed that coordinated efforts by multiple government agencies remain a priority. “After Southern Leyte, I flew to Negros Occidental to meet with Governor Lacson and the mayors of Typhoon Tino–affected local government units. We plotted ways forward to ensure the recovery of their constituents,” he said.

The DSWD Field Office–Negros Island Region (FO-NIR) facilitated the distribution of essential relief items to families in severely affected areas on Saturday, 15 November.

The FO-NIR also distributed cash aid totaling P2.42 million under the DSWD’s emergency cash transfer (ECT) program. Families with totally damaged houses received P10,000 each, while families with partially damaged houses received P5,000 each. In addition to cash assistance, the DSWD distributed family food packs, hygiene kits, and sleeping kits to residents in evacuation centers in Binalbagan, La Castellana, Toboso, and Himamaylan City.

The continuous dispatch of relief goods aims to ensure that displaced families have adequate food and essential supplies while recovery efforts are ongoing.

DSWD’s ongoing assistance aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to guarantee that every disaster-affected family receives necessary government support throughout the recovery process.
