The National Authority for Child Care (NACC) on Wednesday announced the successful rescue of a four-month-old baby reportedly sold for P25,000 via Facebook. The operation was conducted in collaboration with the Philippine National Police Women and Children Protection Center (PNP WCPC) and the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) in Marilao, Bulacan, last 5 November 2025.

Authorities arrested a 39-year-old suspect, believed to be the biological mother of the infant, during the entrapment operation. The baby was immediately given medical attention and placed under the care of proper authorities.

The NACC said an inquest has been conducted for violations of Section 4 (a and e) of Republic Act 9208, as amended (Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003), and Section 7 of Republic Act 7610 (Special Protection of Children Against Child Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act).

NACC Undersecretary Janella Ejercito Estrada issued a strong statement condemning the act, calling it a grave violation of human rights.

“The sale of a child, especially by a parent, is an absolute betrayal of trust and a grave violation of a child's human rights. We condemn in the strongest possible terms this horrific incident of child trafficking, which uses social media as a platform for illegal activities,” Estrada said.

She emphasized that children are not commodities and assured that the government would pursue accountability to the fullest extent of the law.

“A child is not a commodity. We will work closely with law enforcement and our legal partners to ensure that the perpetrators face the full force of the law,” she added.

Estrada also urged struggling parents to seek help through legal channels rather than resorting to desperate acts.

“To all parents facing challenges, please know that selling your child is never an option. The DSWD and NACC are prepared to help. Approach the proper government channels to ensure your child’s safety and future,” she said.

Estrada extended the agency’s gratitude to PNP WCPC chief PBGen. Maria Shiela Portento and her team for their quick response.

“We laud the PNP WCPC for their courageous and immediate service in saving this child’s life. Their swift action is a testament to their dedication to upholding the law and protecting the most vulnerable members of our society,” Estrada concluded.

The NACC also reminded the public to report any incidents of child trafficking or illegal adoption through its official hotline for immediate action.
