BAGUIO CITY — Several national roads and sections of key highways across the Cordillera Region are currently impassable due to landslides, erosion and ongoing infrastructure projects authorities announced Monday.
The affected provinces include Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao and Kalinga, with officials advising extreme caution as the region addresses the aftermath of recent heavy rainfall and reported effects of super typhoon “Uwan.”
While the Marcos Highway and the Baguio-Bauang Road (Naguilian Road or Quirino Highway) remain open, access to Baguio City faces significant restrictions. Kennon Road is closed to the general public, with only residents permitted to pass.
The Baguio-Bontoc Road along Halsema Highway is partially closed at Pilando, Gambang, Bakun, Benguet, for road rehabilitation, forcing traffic onto a one-lane detour that is expected to cause heavy congestion.
An alternate route is the Cong. Andres Acop Cosalan Road. Further north in Paoay, Atok, a separate closure is in effect due to fallen trees and a soil collapse.
Other major road closures across Benguet include the Benguet-Nueva Vizcaya Road, which is blocked by a landslide at Sitio Bangao, Brgy. Ambuclao, Bokod, with clearing operations pending favorable weather.
Additionally, a fallen utility pole has closed a section of the Asin-Nangalisan-San Pascual-La Union Road in Tadiangan, Tuba.
Meantime, the Baguio-Itogon Road is closed by a landslide at Sitio Goldfield, Poblacion, where clearing is suspended, with the Ucab–Midas Road as the alternate route. A road slip and damaged pavement have also closed a section of the Abatan-Mankayan-Cervantes Road at Colalo, Mankayan.
In Apayao, high water levels have impacted the Apayao (Calanasan)-Ilocos Norte Road and the road near the Annaran Bridge construction area. Multiple sections of the Claveria-Calanasan-Kabugao Road are closed due to soil collapse and erosion.
The Banaue-Mayoyao-Isabela Boundary Road is undergoing clearing operations following a soil and rock collapse. The Mountain Province Boundary-Calanan-Pinukpuk-Abbut Road in Tinglayan is also closed due to debris flow, soil collapse and fallen trees.
All national roads and bridges in Abra, within Baguio City limits, Ifugao and Mountain Province are currently reported as passable.
Authorities urged all motorists to reduce speed, follow traffic signs and remain vigilant on recently reopened routes, noting that residual hazards may still be present.
Clearing and repair teams are deployed across the region, but progress relies heavily on improved weather conditions.
