The Philippine Army has intensified rescue, relief, and clearing operations following the devastation caused by Super Typhoon “Uwan,” assisting almost 120,000 affected individuals across Luzon.
Through its Humanitarian and Disaster Response (HADR) efforts, the Army redirected resources from suspended military drills to focus on saving lives amid widespread flooding, heavy rainfall, and power outages.
As of 10 Nov., the Army’s HADR units have aided 35,481 families, or 118,617 individuals, across 2,603 evacuation centers, while 56,459 individuals have safely returned to their homes.
In Bicol, Task Force Sagip under the 9th Infantry Division, together with reservists and partner agencies, conducted rescue, evacuation, road clearing, and relief distribution operations.
Meanwhile, the 5th Infantry Division worked tirelessly to clear debris-laden roads, restore access to isolated communities, and preemptively evacuate residents in high-risk areas across Northern Luzon.
The 7th Infantry Division also carried out preemptive evacuations in coastal villages of Aurora ahead of Uwan’s landfall in Dipaculao on the evening of November 9, ensuring residents were moved to safer locations before the typhoon struck.
“The Philippine Army remains committed to serving and protecting affected communities during disasters,” Army spokesperson Col. Louie Dema-ala assured.
“Our soldiers continue to work around the clock to ensure the safety and recovery of those impacted by Typhoon Uwan,” he added.
Dema-ala said the Army’s relief operations continue, with Major Units coordinating efforts to deliver assistance and restore normalcy in typhoon-affected areas.
