VinFast on buying your first EV

DT

Electric vehicles are becoming a familiar sight on Philippine roads. From the bright cyan Green GSM taxis to the compact VinFast VF 3, the quiet hum of electric power is no longer unusual. For those thinking of buying one for the first time, VinFast shares a few practical points to consider before making the switch.

The first step is to know how much you actually drive each week. For city users whose routes are mostly within Makati, BGC, or Quezon City, smaller models such as the VinFast VF 5 and VF 6 are suitable choices. The VF 5 can travel about 326 kilometers per charge, while the VF 6 extends that to 480 kilometers, enough for short out-of-town trips. For longer drives on expressways, the mid-size VF 7 offers nearly 500 kilometers of range.

Battery technology also matters. VinFast uses Lithium Iron Phosphate or LFP batteries in the VF 6 and VF 7. These batteries are known for being safe and durable under hot and humid conditions. Each battery comes with a 10-year or 200,000-kilometer warranty.

Charging has become easier with more public stations now available in malls, offices, and major highways. VinFast advises new owners to check what charging setup best fits their lifestyle.

Those who live in condominiums should confirm building policies before installing home chargers. Many EV users opt for a Level 2 wall charger that can fully recharge the car overnight.

VinFast’s partnership with V-Green provides three years of free charging to help customers start their electric journey with confidence.

Safety remains a key feature across the lineup. The compact VF 3 includes basic equipment such as anti-lock brakes and airbags. Larger models add advanced driver-assist systems, including blind-spot warnings and cross-traffic alerts. VinFast notes that these features are designed to make both city and highway driving safer.

Comfort and technology also play an important role. A test drive can reveal what specifications cannot. VinFast models offer instant acceleration and digital features such as voice control and mobile connectivity. Drivers can monitor the battery level or set the air-conditioning using a smartphone.

Support after purchase is another consideration. VinFast continues to expand its local service network through partners Motech and JIGA. Roadside assistance and over-the-air software updates are available that allow vehicles to receive improvements remotely.

VinFast points out that ownership costs are significantly lower than those of gasoline vehicles. A full home charge costs between P200 and P300 compared to a typical P1,000 gas refill. Maintenance expenses are also reduced. VF 3 owner Paul Reyes, who has driven 10,000 kilometers, said his experience has convinced him to stay electric.

With more charging options and better affordability, the shift to electric mobility is becoming a practical choice for Filipino drivers.
