Hyundai debuts ELEXIO EV in China

Hyundai Motor, together with its joint venture Beijing Hyundai, is turning a new page in China with the launch of the all-electric ELEXIO SUV and a clearer roadmap for its new energy vehicle strategy in the country. The announcement took place in Yantai on 30 October 2025 and reflects Hyundai’s push to design and develop models specifically for Chinese buyers while keeping an eye on global markets.

The ELEXIO is Hyundai’s first dedicated electric SUV under its “In China, For China, To Global” approach. It rides on the brand’s E-GMP platform, which has underpinned several of Hyundai’s global EVs, but this time the focus is on local needs. Hyundai integrated Chinese technologies and user habits into the model, from software and connectivity to charging compatibility, to align it with what customers in China now expect from an everyday family EV.

Outside, the ELEXIO keeps a clean and straightforward look. The body has simple lines, balanced proportions, and Hyundai’s crystal-square lighting treatment that gives it a distinct face without going over the top. The structure is built to handle both city use and long trips, pairing comfort with durability.

Inside, the attention shifts to space, usability, and tech that feels natural to use. The cabin is centered on a 27-inch ultra-thin 4K widescreen display powered by a Snapdragon 8295 chip. It supports fast response, multi-tasking, and smooth graphics. A feature called Cyber Eye projects key information in front of the driver through a heads-up display with a high contrast level for better visibility in different lighting conditions.

Practicality is a key message. The ELEXIO offers a 506-liter luggage area that can expand to 1,540 liters, plus 46 storage spots around the cabin for daily items. Hyundai fits Dolby Atmos audio as standard, with an available BOSE eight-speaker setup for those who want an upgrade. The vehicle also brings in health monitoring and fatigue detection functions that watch for signs of drowsiness or stress and are aimed at helping keep occupants safe.

The mechanical package is tuned for both comfort and control. Hyundai developed the chassis, damping, and braking systems to feel stable at speed and easy to handle in town. Features such as Family Brake Mode and active side bolsters are meant to make long journeys less tiring for the driver and more comfortable for passengers.

Safety plays a central role in the ELEXIO package. The SUV uses what Hyundai describes as a 720 degree armored body structure with 77.5 percent high strength steel, a total of nine airbags, extended side curtain coverage, and automatic mechanical pop out door handles that assist rescue access in an emergency.

For range and charging, the ELEXIO uses an 88.1 kWh battery. Hyundai cites a driving range of 722 kilometers under the China Light Duty Vehicle Test Cycle. With DC fast charging, the battery can go from 30 percent to 80 percent in about 27 minutes. The system is designed to work with nearly all major charging operators in China.

Hyundai frames the ELEXIO as the starting point of a broader new energy lineup for China that will grow to include more SUVs and sedans by 2030. Company executives describe Hyundai as moving deeper into high-tech mobility and reaffirm their intention to stay invested in the Chinese market and its fast-developing EV segment, positioning ELEXIO as both a local answer and a signal of what comes next.
