ILOILO CITY — The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) Region VI has ordered all local government units in Western Visayas to enforce preemptive evacuations in high-risk areas amid warnings of Super Typhoon “Uwan” barreling toward the country.
In Memorandum No. 89, Series of 2025, RDRRMC Chairperson and OCD-6 Director Raul Fernandez directed all Provincial, City, and Municipal DRRMCs to activate their emergency operations centers and ensure close coordination with the regional office.
The memorandum emphasized the need to prepare evacuation centers, stockpile food, water, medicine, and other supplies, and disseminate timely warnings to vulnerable communities.
According to PAGASA, “Uwan” is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Saturday, bringing widespread heavy to torrential rains and powerful winds across large portions of the country. The typhoon, described as very large, has a diameter stretching from Batanes to Bohol, which could cause severe weather even in areas distant from its center.
Fernandez said the directive seeks to minimize casualties and damage once the super typhoon hits, stressing that early evacuation and preparedness remain the best defense against natural disasters.
