More than 100 families affected by Severe Tropical Storm “Tino” sought temporary refuge at the Bayanihan Village in San Remigio, Cebu, the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) reported Thursday.

DHSUD Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling said the modular housing units (MHUs) in Barangay Poblacion were used during the preemptive evacuation ordered by the local government.

Last month, President Marcos instructed DHSUD to establish Bayanihan Villages in Cebu and Davao. The Chief Executive personally inspected the modular units in San Remigio that were initially set up for earthquake-displaced families, calling the shelters safer and more comfortable than tent sites.

Some of the families who evacuated to the MHUs were previously staying in a tent city for quake victims.
