President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has approved the declaration of a state of national calamity following the widespread devastation caused by Typhoon Tino, which battered several parts of the country earlier this week.

The President announced the decision on Thursday after leading a situation briefing with key government agencies to assess the extent of the damage and coordinate ongoing response efforts.

“There was a proposal from the NDRRMC which I approved — that we declare a national calamity,” Marcos said.

The declaration aims to expedite relief, rehabilitation, and recovery operations in affected areas, as well as enable local governments to access emergency funds more swiftly.

According to the President, relief operations are underway for communities hardest hit by Tino, while government agencies continue to conduct search, rescue, and clearing operations.

Marcos also emphasized that the administration is gearing up for another weather disturbance expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility this weekend.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) earlier reported that Typhoon Tino left dozens dead, displaced thousands of families, and caused extensive infrastructure and agricultural damage, particularly in the Visayas region.

Authorities continue to urge the public to remain vigilant and to follow official advisories as the country braces for another potential storm.
