Five transmission lines in the Visayas and Mindanao have been rendered unavailable due to the onslaught of Typhoon Tino (international name Kalmegi), the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) reported Tuesday.
In its latest advisory, NGCP said the affected lines include:
Maasin–Baybay 69kV Line, serving the Leyte IV Electric Cooperative Inc. (LEYECO IV);
Ormoc–San Isidro 69kV Line, which supplies power to Don Orestes Romualdez Electric Cooperative Inc. (DORECO) in Tolosa, Southern Leyte Electric Cooperative Inc. (SOLECO), LEYECO III, and LEYECO V;
Ormoc–Baybay 69kV Line, catering to LEYECO IV and LEYECO V;
Maasin–San Isidro 69kV Line, which also services SOLECO; and
Placer–Madrid 69kV Line, supplying the Surigao del Norte Electric Cooperative (SURNECO), Siargao Electric Cooperative (SIARELCO), and Surigao del Sur II Electric Cooperative (SURSECO II).
The grid operator added that one 38kV line and one 350kV line are currently unavailable, although details about the affected areas have yet to be confirmed.
NGCP assured the public that its line crews have been mobilized and are conducting patrols and repair operations.
“Simultaneous restoration activities are also being conducted in areas already accessible,” the corporation said in its report.
As of 5 a.m., PAGASA said the center of Tino’s eye was located over the coastal waters of San Francisco, Cebu. The typhoon was moving westward at 25 kilometers per hour (kph), packing maximum sustained winds of 150 kph near the center and gustiness reaching 205 kph.
