Miss Universe Viktoria Theilvig walks out as Nawat berates Mexico rep

Reigning Miss Universe Viktoria Theilvig isn’t one who would just sit down and see another candidate get insulted.

What was meant to be a festive kickoff for the 74th Miss Universe competition turned into a scene of tension and walkouts after Thai pageant president Nawat Itsaragrisil publicly berated Miss Universe Mexico 2025 Fátima Bosch during Tuesday’s sash ceremony.

According to reports, the altercation began when Bosch allegedly declined to participate in a promotional activity organized by the Thai host committee, following instructions from her national director. Nawat confronted her during the event, questioning her commitment to the pageant’s publicity efforts.

When Bosch attempted to explain herself, Nawat cut her off, calling her “dumb” and demanding that she “respect” him. The outburst stunned contestants and attendees, with Bosch leaving the room in tears.

Her exit triggered an unexpected show of solidarity from fellow contestants, including reigning Miss Universe Victoria Kjær Theilvig, who also walked out of the ceremony.

“Things can be handled. To trash another girl is disrespectful, and it’s nothing that I as a person can stand into. So, I’m going to take my call and go,” Theilvig said.

The confrontation appeared to be the latest issue in an ongoing power struggle between the Miss Universe Organization (MUO) and the Thai host committee led by Nawat.

MUO earlier issued a statement disavowing an “unauthorized” online campaign and promotional events organized by the Thai team, saying they were not approved by the global headquarters.

The Thai group, however, insisted the activities were part of its official host-country obligations.

Adding to the controversy, Thai authorities confirmed that the Metropolitan Police in Bangkok had opened an investigation into allegations that contestants were being asked to film promotional content for an online casino — which would violate Thailand’s gambling laws.
