Joy Barcoma redefines Filipina elegance

Miss Philippines Earth 2025 delegate Joy Barcoma has unveiled her breathtaking National Costume, titled “Mascota,” a look that perfectly merges Filipino heritage with modern sustainability. Presented as Look #14, the creation serves as a stunning reminder that beauty and environmental advocacy can coexist in harmony.

The Mascota gown—traditionally a symbol of grace during the late Spanish-era Philippines—receives a powerful reimagining through Joy’s ensemble. Crafted entirely from recycled materials, the gown transforms what was once considered waste into wearable art. Its intricate lace-inspired patterns and voluminous silhouette evoke the genteel elegance of the Filipina of yesteryears, while its craftsmanship champions today’s call for sustainability and conscious creativity.

“This gown is more than fashion,” Joy shared in her post. “It’s a statement that sustainability can be elegant, and that tradition can evolve beautifully toward a greener future.”

Designed by acclaimed Filipino couturier Patrick Isorena, the Mascota gown reflects his signature artistry and attention to detail. Completing the look are hair styling by Edmark Hair, makeup by Zeea Elle, and styling direction by Ken Batino and Jevin Eleven. The entire shoot—captured through the lens of Advan Ramirez at Rizal Park—is a visual celebration of national pride and environmental purpose.

The creative team also extended gratitude to consultants RL Lacanienta and Kevin Agbunag, manager Mark Agbayani, and the National Parks Development Committee for supporting the project.

As Joy Barcoma steps forward in this symbolic creation, she not only showcases Filipino artistry at its finest but also amplifies the Miss Philippines Earth advocacy—to be the “silver lining” amid today’s climate challenges—proving that sustainability is, indeed, the new definition of beauty.
