Olivier-winning ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ coming to Manila in 2026

The 1973 film adaptation of Jesus Christ Superstar starring Ted Neeley became a cult favorite among Filipino audiences and marked the country’s first encounter with Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s groundbreaking rock opera. More than five decades later, the Olivier Award-winning reimagined London production of the global phenomenon will finally make its Philippine debut at The Theatre at Solaire from 02 to 24 May 2026, as part of its ongoing international tour.

Following acclaimed and sold-out runs in London, North America, the United Kingdom, and Australia, the celebrated Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre version—directed by Timothy Sheader and choreographed by Drew McOnie—brings its raw, contemporary energy to Manila audiences for the first time. The production won the 2017 Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival and the 2016 Evening Standard Award for Best Musical.

Jesus Christ Superstar first opened on Broadway in 1971 and in London’s West End in 1972, running for more than eight years and becoming the longest-running musical in West End history at the time. Its rock score, featuring classics such as “Superstar,” “I Don’t Know How to Love Him,” and “Gethsemane,” has cemented its place as one of the most influential works in modern musical theatre.

Casting for the Manila engagement will be announced soon.

The Manila run is produced by GMG Productions and David Ian for Crossroads Live and Work Light Productions, in association with London’s Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre. Tickets will go on sale on 08 November 2025 exclusively via TicketWorld, with a UnionBank pre-sale from 03 to 07 November 2025.
