Globe has partnered with the Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP) in promoting responsible digital citizenship among students with the launch of the Digital Thumbprint Program (DTP), aimed at strengthening its advocacy for online safety and empowerment.
This year, more than 21,000 students and educators from various universities have already participated in the Digital Thumbprint Program learning sessions on online safety, cybersecurity awareness, responsible use of artificial intelligence, and introduction to blockchain, according to Yoly Crisanto, Globe’s Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer.
"Our partnership with TIP Manila marks an exciting new chapter for DTP by turning knowledge into action and leadership. We are launching DTP to empower students to become advocates of digital safety and responsibility," Crisanto said in her speech during the DTP Ambassador Launch on Wednesday morning at the Arlegui Campus in Quiapo, Manila.
"As part of the program, student ambassadors will facilitate DTP to partner communities and schools, including senior citizens. To all TIP ambassadors, this is your opportunity to lead by example. Use your voice, your influence, and your digital thumbprint unique to you to make the online world safer, kinder, and more inclusive for all. Remember that every comment, every share leaves a mark," she added.
According to Crisanto, cybercrime is very prevalent in the Philippines.
In 2024, the Philippines recorded over 14,531 cyber-related complaints, with online scams comprising 44 percent of total complaints.
"The opening of the digital space across the globe actually opened a lot of scamming globally," Crisanto said.
"At Globe, we see the urgency and so we believe that protecting Filipinos online begins with awareness and empowerment, particularly among the youth who are the most active in the digital space," she added.
Committed to pursuing online safety, Globe has invested P105.8 billion, including P6.1 billion in cybersecurity investments since 2015.
"For our content filtering systems, we invested at least P2 million or P156 million just to filter content and to block malicious sites," she said.
"So Globe blocked more than 484 million scam and spam messages within the first half of 2025 alone. Globe has also stopped spam portals, which remain a key defense tool, and we are able to blocklist SIM cards," she added.
Crisanto also said that Globe's filtering system has blocked 248,552 URLs containing child sexual abuse and exploitation materials, including 8,300 URLs with non-photographic images.
Since the launch of DTP, Globe has reached at least 2 million students across the country.
"We trained over 115,000 teachers and covered over 4,000 schools," Crisanto said.
Last year, Globe extended its DTP program to senior citizens. "So, why senior citizens? Because if you look at Facebook, if you look at social media, almost all of them are actually being deceived," she added.
For his part, TIP Vice President for Student Affairs and Services Frank Alejandrino thanked Globe for partnering with them for this program.
"We are very happy and we are grateful to Globe Telecom and our other partners for choosing TIP where to launch this program," Alejandrino said.
"On behalf of the TIP management, I would like to thank Globe for pioneering this program in TIP. So, our dear students, please let us try to sustain this program, especially the ambassadors," he added.
