Russian carrier Iraero Airlines has launched direct flights between Kalibo and two Russian cities, Irkutsk and Khabarovsk, expanding international access to one of the Philippines’ top tourist destinations.
The inaugural flight from Irkutsk arrived on Saturday, 25 October, with Russian tourists on board. Regular operations are set to begin on Wednesday, 28 October, with flights scheduled every Tuesday and Saturday.
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said the route is expected to boost tourism in Western Visayas, particularly Boracay Island, while strengthening ties with Russia.
CAAP Director General Raul del Rosario described the new service as a positive development and part of “proactive steps to future-proof the country’s aviation sector” through investments in modern airport infrastructure, sustainable air transport systems, and international partnerships.
The Malay-Boracay Tourism Office reported that from 1 to 15 October, the area recorded 66,756 tourists, including 12,238 foreign visitors.
