As part of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority’s (MMDA) preparation for All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, 2,400 traffic enforcers will be deployed to ensure road safety for motorists.
“The MMDA is already prepared. We will be deploying around 2,400 enforcers,” MMDA Task Force Special Operations chief Edison “Bong” Nebrija said in a news forum on Saturday.
According to Nebrija, the deployment will run from 25 October to 30 November. A no-leave, no-absence, and no-day-off policy will be enforced on 30 and 31 October and 3 November, as these are the expected dates of public movement and return of travelers to Metro Manila.
The MMDA has also conducted clearing operations in five major cemeteries in the metropolis: Manila North Cemetery, Manila South Cemetery, Loyola Park Marikina, Bagbag Cemetery, and San Juan Cemetery.
“We will also assign personnel from the Metro Parkway Clearing Group. These are the ones assigned to the cemeteries, and they will help our local governments maintain cleanliness around the cemeteries,” Nebrija said in Filipino.
He advised cemetery visitors to check their respective local government’s official websites or social media pages for traffic rerouting plans and designated parking spaces.
“Because most cemeteries during this time will not allow parking inside the cemetery unless it’s a big cemetery. The small ones usually implement street parking,” Nebrija explained.
The MMDA has also coordinated with the managements of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX), and Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) to ensure an orderly traffic flow.
Meanwhile, the MMDA is working with the Highway Patrol Group and the National Capital Region Police to ensure peace and order during the observance and to synchronize their traffic management plans.
