Fears of the unknown

Jeannie Javelosa

Our recent conversations, over coffee, group chats and high school homecoming gatherings have been circling around one topic that seems to sit heavily in everyone’s gut — earthquakes.
Friends are talking about preparedness: what to pack in a Go Bag, where to run, who to call.
Beneath the laughter that softens the edges of anxiety lies a deep and collective fear — fear for our loved ones, of collapse, of what we cannot predict. And for all, an anxiety for the next generation and the wild unknown world they will be in.

It is true: the earth has been shaking more often lately. The Ring of Fire seems to be awake — and we, the Philippines, sit right at its fiery heart. This horseshoe-shaped belt stretches around the Pacific Ocean, and in our area, curving down through Japan, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Within it, 75 percent of the world’s volcanoes live and 90 percent of the planet’s earthquakes occur. We are literally perched on the trembling edge of tectonic plates that grind, clash, and release energy deep below the surface.

But beyond the geological, we all feel something else moving. There is a sense an unseen vibration — a quickening in the air, a stirring in the fields of energy all around us. These are the manifestation of cosmic forces at play as our galaxy has entered a photon belt of light vibrating faster and of a higher level. The Earth’s heartbeat — its Schumann Resonance — is fluctuating out of its norm. And if everything is energy, then we too are being shaken awake, not just physically but spiritually.

The Philippines is located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, an area where a large number of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur.

Another conversation that naturally follows these tremors is the appearance of 3I/Atlas. Online, this celestial visitor has been sparking wild speculation. Is it a cosmic rock — a simple comet passing by, harmless and beautiful in its icy trajectory? Or is it something more mysterious, perhaps even alien technology cloaked in comet dust? Some online voices, amplified by fear and fascination, feed on these extremes. The truth is, no one really knows. And that’s the point — the Unknown breeds fear.

In this digital era, fear spreads faster than fact. Social media magnifies uncertainty, spinning it into what economists call a Black Swan effect — those rare, unpredictable events that have massive consequences. Once they happen, they seem obvious in hindsight, but until then, they swim beneath our awareness. Online, it’s as if everyone is waiting for the next Black Swan — an earthquake, a comet, a financial system collapse — and in waiting, we amplify the tremor of anxiety itself.

Yet if we step back and view these cosmic movements through a scientific lens, we see another layer of meaning. Celestial bodies like comets, solar flares, and coronal mass ejections (CMEs) affect the Earth’s electromagnetic sphere. These disturbances ripple through our planet’s magnetic field, subtly influencing weather patterns, human behavior and even biological rhythms. If frequencies are rising and cosmic energies intensifying, perhaps we are entering a phase where both the Earth’s crust and our consciousness are being recalibrated. Truly, we are in a period of radical changes.

And so, we prepare. We buy batteries and bottled water, pack flashlights and first-aid kits. We plan escape routes and exchange notes on which walls might stand the longest. While physical preparedness is necessary — it gives us a sense of control in an uncontrollable world. But beyond survival gear, perhaps what we most need to prepare is our inner landscape. Because if the shaking comes — and it will, in one form or another — we need to ask ourselves what truly anchors us? When everything external is uncertain, our stability must come from within. The spiritual Go Bag must also be ready.

How do we prepare spiritually? Perhaps it starts by remembering that fear is also energy. It can consume or it can awaken. So let’s keep our frequencies and energies high by remaining positive. This is our ticket to safety. Because as we retain higher frequencies, we likewise vibrate toward harmonious people and safe spaces.

The Good Book reminds us to “look to the heavens for signs.” Astrology, in its ancient wisdom, has always done this — mapping the heavens to understand the cycles of human and planetary evolution. The heavens are certainly alive with signs for those who can decipher the messages. Pluto, the planet of transformation, has entered Aquarius. This shift will be with us for decades, pushing humanity toward awakening — dismantling systems that no longer serve and ushering in collective unity consciousness. It is not a gentle energy. It shakes, breaks and demands rebirth. We are being pushed to open to the unknown, to expand beyond fear and step into the higher frequencies of our own potential.

And then there is Neptune — just turning retrograde in Pisces until January 2026. Neptune rules dreams, illusions, and spirituality; when retrograde, it dissolves veils. This means truths long hidden — both within ourselves and in the world — will surface. We may feel disoriented, unsure what is real. But this is exactly the medicine of Neptune: to strip away illusion so we may find faith, not in external certainties, but in inner knowing. The Unknown is not our enemy. It is the vast field of possibility through which all creation emerges. It is the dark soil where new life germinates. Yes, the ground may shake, the sky may flash with comets and our newsfeeds may buzz with alarm — but within the still point of our being, there is peace.

Perhaps the real preparation we need now is alignment — of body, mind and spirit — with the evolving frequencies of our Earth and cosmos. Drink clean water, eat clean food. Breathe consciously. Strengthen community bonds. Connect to nature. Meditate. Pray. Listen to the subtle. The ring of fire around us mirrors the fire within us. The quakes and cosmic visitors are not merely signs of danger — they are reminders of our interconnection with a living universe. The Unknown asks not for fear, but for trust.

In the end, it may not matter whether 3I/Atlas is alien or comet, or whether tectonic plates shift tomorrow or next year. What matters is how we respond — whether with panic or presence. The Unknown will always hover at the edges of our understanding. But if we meet it with open eyes and a steady heart, it becomes not a terror, but a teacher. For in the trembling of the Earth, we are being called to remember: we are not separate from the cosmos that stirs us. As the Sufi mystic Rumi wrote: “We are the Universe in ecstatic motion.”  For we are part of the same great unfolding, guided through darkness toward light.
