JV assures backing to Blue Ribbon chair

Senator JV Ejercito assured the public Wednesday that he would work with whomever is appointed to chair the powerful Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, following reports that Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson will return to the post.

Senate President Vicente Sotto III confirmed Tuesday that Lacson would be “100 percent” back as head of the panel when the Senate opens its second regular session in November.

Lacson stepped down earlier this month after reports surfaced that fellow senators were dissatisfied with how he led the committee’s investigations.

Ejercito, who was rumored to be among those offended by Lacson’s earlier remark that “almost all” senators had budget insertions in the 2025 national budget, denied any rift between them.

“My position is that whoever sits, what matters is we would know who the real culprits are because the public is still waiting for answers,” Ejercito said in a statement.

He stressed that his focus remains on accountability, regardless of the leadership.

“Whoever chairs the Blue Ribbon Committee, I can work with. What’s important is that we move decisively and get to the bottom of this biggest scandal, which is the floodgates caused by syndicated criminals,” Ejercito said.

He reiterated his commitment to his work.
