Spanish authorities have launched a homicide investigation into the death of Isak Andic, billionaire founder of global fashion brand Mango, nearly 10 months after what was initially believed to be a tragic hiking accident.
Andic, 71, died in December 2024 after falling over 100 meters while hiking near Montserrat, a mountainous region outside Barcelona, Spain.
While the incident was officially ruled an accident, recent developments have shifted the narrative dramatically toward his son, Jonathan Andic, El País said, citing “different sources with knowledge of the investigation.”
Inconsistencies in Jonathan's account of the event, along with new digital evidence reportedly found on his phone, have led authorities to reopen the case.
Adding to speculation is testimony from Andic’s long-time partner, retired golfer Estefanía Knuth, who told investigators that relations between father and son had become strained in the months before the disastrous trip.
In a statement issued through lawyers, the Andic family expressed “full confidence” in Jonathan’s innocence. They condemn what they call “baseless speculation."
“This was a devastating loss for the entire family. We are cooperating fully with the authorities and hope for a swift resolution,” their statement read.
