Retired Gen. Eduardo Ermita Dies at 90

“It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we, the Ermita family, announce the passing of our beloved father, General Eduardo Ramos Ermita (Retired), a dedicated public servant and our guiding light,” the family said in a Facebook post.

Former Batangas 1st District Representative, retired general, and former executive secretary, Eduardo Ermita died at the age of 90 on Saturday morning 18 October 2025.

In a Facebook post of his family, they stated that Eduardo Erimita passed away peacefully at 8:00 am on Saturday, surrounded by his loving family.

“It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we, the Ermita family, announce the passing of our beloved father, General Eduardo Ramos Ermita (Retired), a dedicated public servant and our guiding light,” the family said in a Facebook post.

Ermita was a Philippine Military Academy graduate of 1957, he rose from the ranks and became deputy chief of staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines from 1986 to 1988. During the term of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Ermita served as executive secretary and defense secretary.

“Our Father lived a full life in steadfast service to the Filipino people. As a soldier, he served with honor and dedication during some of the nation’s most challenging times,” the family said in the post.

Ermita was born in Balayan Batangas, he served his hometown as a congressman of their 1st district from 1992 to 2001.

“He was a true patriarch, not only of our family but also of the entire First District of Batangas, whose welfare remained his foremost concern until the very end,” the post stated. 

“We take solace in knowing that his life’s work has touched countless others and that his legacy will live through use and through all who were inspired by his example.” They added.

Despite the many shoes that Eduardo Ermita wore, he was simply a father and a grandfather to his family and loved ones.

“To us his family, he was simply "Papa "or "Lolo Ed” — our source of wisdom, strength, and unconditional love. The lessons he imparted and the values he lived by are the greatest legacy he leaves behind.” the post said.
