The Lawyers for Commuters Safety and Protection (LCSP) on Saturday urged lawmakers to follow the example of newly appointed Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Undersecretary Arrey Perez.
Perez resigned from his post, DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon announced on 17 October 2025, after Batangas 1st District Representative Leandro Leviste linked him to certain government contractors.
“‘Delikadeza’ was how the LCSP viewed Perez’s move. There is no investigation, only a statement from a congressman,” said Attorney Ariel Inton, LCSP founder and chairman, referring to Perez’s resignation prompted by Leviste’s allegation.
“Compare Perez to senators, House members, and other officials who have been named by witnesses and have evidence against them but still cling to their posts until removed. Some even hold press conferences, make public statements, and issue challenges. Why can’t they follow Undersecretary Perez’s example and resign immediately?” Inton added.
The LCSP praised Perez’s decision to step down to allow the investigation to proceed and to avoid being a distraction to the DPWH.
“Few like Undersecretary Perez have ‘delikadeza.’ They could resign while being investigated. But when in office, it’s different — resources are wasted,” Inton said.
Perez issued a statement after Leviste’s allegations, describing them as a “political game.”
Leviste had questioned Perez’s track record at the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) and alleged links to flood control contractors.
Perez responded to the controversy, saying, “I resigned because I know that the malicious insinuations against me will only turn public service into a political game.”
He added, “Let the fight against corruption continue, and let me continue to do my work in it from a position of integrity.”
Perez had only been sworn into the position two weeks prior.
