The Philippine National Police (PNP) has ordered all its units nationwide to strengthen health and safety protocols amid rising cases of seasonal flu that recently prompted class suspensions in Metro Manila.
PNP Acting Chief P/LtGen. Jose Melencio Nartatez, Jr. issued the directive as part of efforts to protect both police personnel and the public, in accordance with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s instructions and the guidance of Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla.
“The PNP reminds all units to continue observing basic health protocols, including proper hygiene, regular handwashing, and the use of face masks when necessary, especially in crowded areas,” he said in a statement Friday.
Police stations and facilities have also been instructed to maintain adequate ventilation and ensure cleanliness at all times.
The PNP Health Service has been tasked with conducting regular health checks and monitoring personnel for flu-like symptoms to allow for prompt medical response and prevent further transmission within police ranks.
“Our goal is to ensure that our police officers remain healthy and capable of performing their duties while safeguarding the well-being of the communities they serve,” Nartatez added.
This comes amid public concern following class suspensions across Metro Manila due to increased reports of influenza-like illnesses (ILI).
However, the Department of Health (DOH) clarified that there is no outbreak, according to Health Secretary Ted Herbosa.
The PNP also urged the public to stay calm and follow health advisories issued by the government.
“There is no cause for panic, but it is important that everyone takes preventive measures such as staying home when sick and practicing proper hygiene. The PNP remains committed to supporting the government’s efforts to ensure everyone’s safety and well-being,” Nartatez said.
