From a teary confession in a bathtub to defiant statements by the pool, Liza Soberano delivers an unfiltered narrative of pain, relief, and self-assertion, showing that her journey is not only about survival but also about reclaiming her power.
Hosted by Sarah Bahbah, Can I Come In? is a dreamlike cinematic show that resembles a diary brought to life. The documentary is divided into three chapters—Entitled, A Special Moment, and Mind Your F**king Business—each set in different, evocative locations.
In the film, the actress opens up about the trauma she endured during her childhood, from her parents’ breakup to the adult responsibilities she had to shoulder at a young age.
She also reveals the struggles her family faced, including her mother’s addiction and her father’s arrest.
“My mom sadly had like a really bad addiction to crystal meth. And my dad, he was a chemist, among many other things. And so they were kind of like this Bonnie and Clyde duo.”
Liza further discusses how her brother was affected by her mother’s worsening addiction and the family’s turmoil.
“And her addiction got worse, because she was even using while she was pregnant with my little brother. And so my little brother was born addicted to crystal meth.”
One poignant segment of the documentary recalls memories involving her mother’s boyfriend, Michael, and her little brother. She describes how their living situation during that time was harsh and unstable, including living in a stolen van for days.
“So the earliest memory I have is me trying to get out of a car seat, Why? Because every night they would sleep in the back of the van. My mom, Michael, and my brother and I was left alone in the car seat,” Liza shared.
At just two years old, she tried to escape the car but was always caught by Michael. She also recounted a distressing moment when Michael tried to physically harm her baby brother.
Eventually, her mother called the police, and Michael was arrested, leaving the family in the custody of a friend.
“So Michael had to push my mom out of the car, then he had grabbed on to her hair from the window, and my mom’s hair scalp tore a bit. And then he got arrested, my mom got arrested,” she said.
Her brief yet candid account provides a glimpse into the roots of her resilience and the personal battles she has faced. Liza transforms memories once shrouded in fear into a powerful testament of survival and self-worth.
In the interview, she also breaks her silence on the breakup with her longtime love team and partner, Enrique Gil.
"Yeah I've been honestly itching to tell people this because I haven't been truthful, Quen hasn't been truthful. Quen and I broke up. We've been broken up for almost three years now," the actress reveals.
