The National Bureau of Investigation - Cybercrime Division (NBI-CCD) arrested three Chinese nationals for kidnapping and serious illegal detention in Parañaque City.
NBI Director Jaime Santiago identified the suspects as Zou Tao, Jin Cai, and Junying Lyu.
The case stemmed from a complaint received by NBI-CCD alleging that the victim was being unlawfully detained and coerced into working by the three suspects.
The complainant, a friend of the victim, reported that the victim was also being threatened with death if he attempted to escape.
With the information gathered, NBI-CCD agents conducted a rescue operation. After proper coordination with the PNP, the City Prosecutor’s Office, the Barangay, and condominium security management, the NBI-CCD agents and the complainant proceeded to the reported location.
Inside the unit, they found the three suspects and the victim sitting on his bed. The victim positively identified the three individuals as those responsible for his unlawful detention.
The three suspects were arrested and apprised of their constitutional rights. A pair of handcuffs used to restrain the victim was also recovered from the premises.
Agents likewise discovered live computers inside the unit. An initial inspection of the desktop interfaces revealed no indication of cryptocurrency-related or investment scam activities.
A warrant to search and examine computer data will be applied for to subject these computers to digital forensics.
The suspects were brought to the NBI-CCD office and underwent standard booking procedures.
