Malacañang on Wednesday said President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., has approved multiple proclamations declaring special non-working days in select provinces and cities to allow residents to actively take part in important local events such as founding anniversaries, charter days, and cultural festivals.
These proclamations, all signed by Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin on August 8, reflect the Marcos administration’s continued support for local traditions, culture, and community pride, according to the Palace.
Under Proclamation No. 988, August 29 (Friday) is declared a special non-working day in the Municipality of Dangcagan, Bukidnon, in celebration of its Founding Anniversary.
Proclamation No. 989 designates August 30 (Saturday) as a holiday in Mandaue City, Cebu, in observance of its 56th Charter Anniversary. The date also marks the formal organization of the city government under Proclamation No. 586, series of 1969.
Proclamation No. 990 sets September 5 (Friday) as a special non-working day in General Santos City, South Cotabato, for the celebration of the 27th Tuna Festival, highlighting the city's tuna industry and cultural pride.
Meanwhile, Proclamation No. 991, September 8 (Monday), has been declared a special non-working day in the Municipality of Loon, Bohol, in celebration of the SidlaKasilak Festival, also known as the Festival of Lights.
Proclamation No. 992 likewise designates September 8 as a holiday in Digos City, Davao del Sur, in honor of its 25th Founding Anniversary, known locally as Araw ng Digos.
Meanwhile, Proclamation No. 993 declares September 9 (Tuesday) a special non-working day in Bais City, Negros Oriental, to mark the city’s 57th Charter Anniversary.
On September 13 (Saturday), residents of Claver, Surigao del Norte, will observe a local holiday under Proclamation No. 994, commemorating the town’s Founding Anniversary (Adlaw Nan Claver).
Finally, Proclamation No. 995 designates September 18 (Thursday) as a special non-working day in Bansalan, Davao del Sur, in celebration of its 73rd Founding Anniversary.
These proclamations aim to give communities time to honor their history, heritage, and achievements through full participation in local events.
“It is but fitting and proper that the people be given full opportunity to participate in the occasion and enjoy the celebration,” the proclamation read.
