Will ‘he’ say yes?

Why are women popping the question?

Pauline Joyce Pascual

Once upon a time, proposals established a defined pattern: the man chose the ring, got down on one knee and proposed. What was the woman’s role? Wait to be asked.

Nevertheless, modern love stories are quite different. Women are more active than ever in the proposal process, often even selecting their own ring, and an increasing number are flipping the script by being the one to propose.

Here is the truth — a proposal is simply a question: Will you marry me?

There is nothing fundamentally macho about it. It has traditionally been considered a man’s role, however, this is due to centuries of society expectations rather than necessity. Times are changing and so is our idea of love, commitment and who gets to take the first step.

So, is it wrong for a woman to propose to a man? Not at all.

In fact, it can be a very empowering and refreshing action. Love knows no gender boundaries, and neither should proposals. If asking feels right for you and your relationship, do not let old traditions or other opinions get in the way.

Sure, the elder generation may raise their eyebrows, but those will quickly pass when they see two individuals who are truly happy and in-love.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to a woman’s proposal. Some make great gestures, while others keep things very personal and intimate. What is most important is that it expresses your relationship and personality. Whether it is a morning beach scene, a casual living room request or a lavish surprise, the proposal should seem authentic.

In the end, what matters is the love, connection and dedication that drives the proposal. So, if you are ready to make the leap, go for it! You are not simply defying tradition; you are creating a love narrative that is entirely your own. And, sure, that includes finding a ring that fits him!

You can now buy these pieces at Pristine Paradigm, where they feel that any proposal is more than just a personal statement; it is helping to reshape relationships for the better. Even after two years, Pristine Paradigm stays above expectations, and their first-ever unique anniversary pop-up is the ideal way to commemorate the occasion.

During the launch, founder and chief executive officer Katriana Batu, alongside co-founder Juni Rollan, shared the story behind their expanding men’s collection.

According to Rollan, “Just to give you guys a funny example of why we ventured into the men’s collection — honestly, initially it wasn’t something that was in the forefront of our ideas. But there were constant requests from all of our customers to actually provide men’s jewelry.”

Rollan added, “At the same time, we had customers asking for promise rings (women), as a symbol of their commitment to each other in a relationship. And then from there, it kind of just evolved — earrings, segment rings, even bracelets. And I guess what we learned out of all of this, out of all of the requests from our customers, is that there is really a growing demand of men who can express themselves differently.”

As Rollan summed it up, “There is quite a bold confidence and a creative intent to actually want to express ourselves with our jewelry. And so that’s why we’ve been introducing them quite a lot recently and building that collection for men.”s
