The Philippine Army welcomes the appointment of Lieutenant General Antonio G. Nafarrete as the 67th Commanding General of the Philippine Army.
Army spokesperson Col. Louie Dema-ala described Nafarrete as a "seasoned leader with decades of service" who has "integrity, experience, and a strong commitment to the Army’s mission of peace and national development."
"We extend our full support as he assumes command," he added.
Under Nafarrette's leadership, Dema-ala said the "Army will continue to enhance operational readiness, pursue modernization, and uphold its core values of honor, patriotism, and duty in service to the Filipino people."
Nafarrete is a member of the Philippine Military Academy “Bigkis-Lahi” Class of 1990.
He served as the Commander of the 6th Infantry “Kampilan” Division, 1st Infantry “Tabak” Division, and the Joint Task Force Zampelan, of the Armed Forces of the Philippines-Western Mindanao Command (WESMINCOM).
As WESMINCOM chief, Nafarrete focused on eliminating the local threats and ending terrorism to promote economic resilience and development in the region. His efforts in finishing the tasks on Internal Security Operations helped the PA's shift towards Territorial Defense and External Security Operations.
Meanwhile, outgoing Army Chief Lt. Gen. Roy M. Galido formally hangs his uniform after 39 years of dedicated military service.
Also a distinguished member of the PMA “Bigkis-Lahi” Class of 1990, he served as the CGPA for two years and committed to the Philippine Army's morale and welfare and mission accomplishment. He championed transparency and discipline within the Army.
Galido also served as the WESMINCOM, AFP Commander, 6th Infantry “Kampilan” Division, and the Inspector General, Philippine Army
Galido took the helm of the Philippine Army in August 2023. As the 66th CGPA, he has set forth a Command Guidance summarized in the acronym ARMY: “Always Pray; Be Reliable, Relevant, and Responsive; Be Mission Oriented and Morale is paramount; always Yield personal interest for the good of the nation."
He is also the first Army Chief to lead the organization for two years under the provisions of the Republic Act (RA) No. 11939 otherwise known as the "Act Further Strengthening Professionalism and Promoting the Continuity of Policies and Modernization Initiatives in the Armed Forces of the Philippines" which amended RA 11709.
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. graced the Change of Command rites and Galido’s retirement ceremony at the Army headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.
During the ceremony, Marcos extended his well-wishes to the Generals as they embark on a new chapter in their military career.
Galido was represented with a Command Plaque and a Plaque of Recognition for his service to the Philippine Army and his faithful service, loyalty to the nation.
Marcos, on the other hand, ordered Nafarrete to continue leading the Army to be a capable and reliable force in territorial defense and in defending the nation against external threats.
In response, Nafarrete said the Army is always ready to lead the future.
