Petecio gushes over Paris performance

Two-time Olympic medalist Nesthy Petecio looked back fondly on her stint at the Paris Olympics last year as she was able to share the moment with the people closest to her.

Petecio said having her younger brother Norlan help her out and her partner Riza Geneblaza cheering her on at the Stade Roland Garros made her bronze-medal finish in the women’s 57-kilogram division sweeter.

“This was my most memorable tournament. One of the reasons was that my brother, who was also with me on the national boxing team, was there to witness it. He was one of the reasons I was able to win another medal, even though many doubted my ability,” Petecio said.

“Another reason was that my partner was there to support me wholeheartedly in every fight.”

Petecio experienced what it was like competing in two different Olympics in her national team stint.

During the Tokyo Summer Games in 2021, Petecio got a silver medal in the same weight category but her movement and training were restricted at the time due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile for Paris, the 33-year-old pug even had the luxury to train in Metz, France and Saarbrucken, Germany.

Petecio said she remained thankful to those who supported her in her boxing journey.

“I am grateful to the people who have always supported and believed in me. I always say this: I will never forget you,” Petecio said.
