The Land Transportation Office (LTO) announced Friday it has mobilized personnel to assist trucks and other vehicles delivering basic goods and relief supplies nationwide, following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive for a whole-of-government approach to aid Filipinos affected by recent weather disturbances.

Acting Assistant Secretary and LTO chief Atty. Greg G. Pua Jr. said that this assistance covers vehicles transporting essential commodities to markets, ensuring the flow of goods is not hampered by the heavy rains and flooding that began with tropical storm “Crising” last week.

The directive also extends to government vehicles delivering relief goods and those transporting equipment for search, rescue, and road clearing operations.

“Under the guidance of Department of Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon, we already informed all regional directors to mobilize a sufficient number of personnel for the road assistance to government vehicles delivering relief goods and even those transporting equipment for search, rescue and road clearing operations,” Pua said.

He added the instruction was specifically directed to all Regional Directors in severely affected areas.

In addition to facilitating essential deliveries, LTO personnel, particularly those in enforcement units, have been directed to assist motorists struggling with difficult road conditions across much of Luzon.

At the same time, Pua issued a stern warning to reckless drivers who disregard road safety rules during heavy rains. Following social media posts about vehicles driving dangerously on wet roads, LTO enforcers have been ordered to pursue such motorists.

“We encourage our netizens to inform us about these reckless drivers who compromise road safety amid the unsafe road conditions due to heavy rains in the past days,” Pua said.

He added that complainants can also report concerns through the “AksyOn the Spot” hotline at 09292920865.
