Rain or shine, juniors deliver in Superkit opener

Eight-year-old Stephanie Gan’s eyes lit up the moment she spotted one of the five brand-new golf bags on display during the kickoff leg of the Superkit Junior Elite Golf Tour at the Vineyard Golf Club in Tanauan, Batangas last Saturday.

“Are those for the champions?” she asked eagerly — the kind of innocent excitement only a junior golfer (and daughter of JGFP president Oliver Gan) could bring to the green.

It turned out, it wasn’t.

The golf sets doubled as display models for Superkit’s latest line of woods and irons, which were launched during the rain-soaked one-day event.

Despite the torrential rains that soaked Luzon, over a hundred participants showed up at the par-54, all-par-3 course — a new layout that features double island greens serving as the finishing holes on both nines.

The Vineyard Golf Club, an exclusive enclave now drawing serious attention, stood its ground against nature’s fury. Despite relentless downpours, the greens remained firm and receptive, while the smartly contoured terrain prevented water from pooling — proving the course was as resilient as it is refined.

The boys completed their rounds in the morning, seemingly unfazed by the rain. Kraig Tee led the charge, carding a seven-over-par 71 to top the 10–12 division with the best round in the morning.

Other division winners included Timothy Lim (16–18), David Gothong (13–15), Kenji Yamada (8–9), and Alonso Fabul, who ruled the 6–7 category.

By afternoon, the rain intensified, making conditions even more challenging for the girls.

But Nicole Gan rose to the occasion. She played steady golf, cruising at even par before heavy downpours forced play to stop with five holes to go.

Despite the weather, Gan clinched a runaway seven-shot victory in the 13–15 bracket.

Other girls’ division champions were Sydney Eusebio (16–18), Penelope Sy (10–12), Andrea Dee (8–9), and Ashleigh Remo (5–7).

Trophies, medals and prizes were awarded to the top six finishers in each division.

Throughout the season, players will earn merit points, with the top six scorers at the end of the year receiving cash prizes and certificates.

The overall champion may be named Superkit Brand Ambassador for 2026, earning product vouchers and scholarships.

The tour will culminate in the Superkit Final this December, where the top three in each division will qualify for the Superkit International Junior Elite Championship in Guangdong, China, set for 9 to 11 January 2026.
