Barangay health worker electrocuted on way to work in Meycauayan

CAMP OLIVAS, PAMPANGA — A female barangay health worker (BHW) from Meycauayan City was electrocuted and died while reporting to work on Tuesday morning, authorities said.

Manuel Lukban Jr., provincial disaster risk reduction management officer of Bulacan, identified the victim as Christina Padora of Barangay Bayugo in the said city.

Reports reaching the office of Brig. Gen. Ponce Rogelio Peñones Jr., Central Luzon police director, said the victim went to the flooded barangay health station in her village at around 8:18 a.m. on Tuesday to check the status of the equipment, instruments, and vaccines in the office.

The health worker was electrocuted as she passed by a tent beside the health station that was exposed to a live wire, police report said.

Police said the victim was rushed to the Meycauayan Doctors Hospital but did not survive the incident.

Meanwhile, the Meycauayan mayor committed to cover the medical bills and extend burial assistance to the family of the victim.

As a barangay volunteer, the victim's family is entitled to accidental death benefits from the insurance provided by the city government.
