Hundreds of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Japan took advantage of the opportunity to renew their driver’s licenses online during the national government’s Serbisyo Caravan in Osaka, which included services from the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
The online driver’s license renewal for OFWs in Japan, held Sunday, 20 July, was in line with the directive of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. to the Department of Transportation (DoTr), under the leadership of Secretary Vince Dizon, to shift all government services under the department to digital platforms.
Acting Assistant Secretary and LTO chief Atty. Greg G. Pua Jr., who led the online driver’s license renewal in Osaka, expressed gratitude to OFWs for supporting the national government’s program to bring services closer to them.
“Our online driver’s license renewal was a success, and it’s truly heartwarming to not only see our fellow Filipinos supporting the program but also receiving their heartfelt thanks for a faster and more convenient renewal process,” Pua said.
“Our OFWs can rest assured that your LTO will not stop until government transactions are faster — because that is the true meaning of change under Bagong Pilipinas,” he added.
The LTO first launched its online driver’s license renewal in Taiwan last year, where hundreds of OFWs also benefited.
One of the LTO clients in Japan expressed gratitude to the LTO and the national government for launching the online platform for driver’s license renewal.
“The LTO here is very helpful, the process is very quick, and the LTO staff are super friendly,” he said. “They will assist you 100 percent all the way. Nice one, LTO!” he added.
The online driver’s license renewal includes the option to use accredited courier services.
From initial application to delivery of the license card to the designated address in Japan, the entire process can take between three to five days.
The LTO is aiming to expand its digital services to other parts of the world as soon as possible, particularly in the Middle East, United States and Europe.
