In an effort to boost salt production in the province, a fisherfolk association underwent a one-day Capability Training on the Development of the Salt Industry Project (DSIP) in Brgy. Dikapanikian, Dibgalan, Aurora.

In a statement issued on 18 July 2025, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region III (BFAR-III) said that the training aims to strengthen the local salt industry and improve the livelihoods of fisherfolk.

The Capability Training on the Development of the Salt Industry Project (DSIP) of the BFAR3 was attended by the local fisherfolk group, Samahang Anak Dagat ng Dikapanikian.

The training provided the association with technical knowledge and entrepreneurial skills for sustainable salt production.

Technical sessions were conducted with the Salt Team of BFAR-III, and included discussions on salt production technology by Ms. Jacqueline Dinglasan of DOST; market opportunities by Ms. Allen Kristel Meraña from the Negosyo Center; and environmental protection and potential salt production areas by Mr. Alfredo Collado of DENR. Ms. Gloripine Saldivia, DSIP focal, also shared insights on good manufacturing practices in salt production.

The program also focused on community development, followed by a financial literacy session for fisherfolk conducted by Mr. Vergel Duran of the Training Unit.

The training concluded with a closing message from Engr. Jairies Fae P. Batas, Municipal Agriculture Officer, who commended the collaborative efforts of various agencies and encouraged continued support for local salt farmers. The event served as a significant step in BFAR-III’s efforts to promote sustainable fisheries and resilient coastal communities.
