BALANGA, Bataan — Chinese electric vehicle (EV) giant BYD will open a showroom in Balanga and a service center in nearby Abucay later this year, company officials announced.

The company held a groundbreaking ceremony at Upper Tuyo along Roman Highway in Balanga City on July 14, 2025. The ceremony marks the start of construction of the BYD showroom, with the goal of opening by October.

With the theme “Bataan’s Enduring Valor: Powering a Greener Tomorrow, Together,” Bataan officials led by Governor Joet Garcia attended the ceremony. Hexagon Group of Companies President and Chairman Cris Gamboa led the groundbreaking, signaling the start of construction.

Hexagon Group of Companies, operating under SGS Holdings, Inc., partnered with BYD (Build Your Dreams) to establish Hexagon Motors Inc. The new venture focuses on the dealership and distribution of BYD's EVs in the Philippines.

Vice President for CPBD (Hexagon Group of Companies) Jervis Ng, Managing Director of ACmobility Bob Palanca, and Deputy General Manager of BYD Cars Philippines Lovelyn Labrador were also present during the ceremony.

Governor Garcia said that the province of Bataan is using BYD EVs for its fleet of patrol vehicles used by the Metro Bataan Development Authority (MBDA), citing that EVs have greatly contributed to the coffers of the provincial government in terms of saved money from fuel allocations.

He added that the EVs used are environmentally friendly, which is in line with the thrust of the provincial government to make public transportation reduce air pollution and lower operating costs for public utility vehicles.

Bataan has been advocating for EVs in recent years, with free charging stations at SM City Bataan in Balanga and Vista Mall Bataan. Garcia added that the provincial government plans to install more charging stations using solar energy in various areas of the province.
