The Philippine government mourns the death of overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Leah Mosquera, who died due to injuries sustained in an Iranian missile attack in Israel.
“The Department of Migrant Workers [DMW] is deeply mourning for the passing of OFW caregiver Leah Mosquera, one of the four Filipinos wounded and hospitalized in the City of Rehovot, Israel due to Iranian missile attacks on 15 June 2025,” the DMW said in a statement.
Mosquera was injured when a missile directly struck her apartment on Bilu Street, where she lived with fellow Filipino caregivers. She was confined for nearly a month at the Shamir Medical Center and was placed on ventilator support with oxygen.
In a separate statement, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) said it is coordinating with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), the Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv, the Migrant Workers Office and other relevant authorities in Israel to facilitate the repatriation of Mosquera’s remains and provide financial and psychosocial assistance to the OFW’s family.
OWWA reiterated its call for stronger global measures to protect migrant workers in conflict zones.
"The OWWA is calling for greater global action to ensure the safety of migrant workers in countries experiencing crises or conflict. Like the DA and DMW, we stand firm in the belief that every OFW has the right to live and work safely, with dignity, and with adequate protection anywhere in the world."
Meanwhile, the DMW Rapid Response Team (RRT) extended financial assistance to 682 OFWs affected by the Iran-Israel conflict.
Of these, 104 are based in Tiberias, two hours from Tel Aviv.
DMW-NCR Director and RRT Team Leader Falconi Millar arrived in Israel on 7 July to oversee on-ground operations.
To date, the total number of OFWs assisted in Israel amid the conflict has reached 870.
