What happens when two opposites collide on a night that they never expected to mean anything — only to find it might mean everything?
This August, romantic cinema finds its heartbeat again in Meg and Ryan, the latest offering from Pocket Media Productions and the first solo directorial feature by seasoned filmmaker Catherine O. Camarillo, DGPI. Headlined by the first-time pairing of Rhian Ramos and JC Santos, the film promises a fresh, emotionally nuanced take on serendipity, connection, and the unpredictable rhythm of falling in love.
Chance encounter
Penned by acclaimed screenwriter Gina Marissa Tagasa, Meg and Ryan is the story of two strangers — Meg, a spirited woman who thrives on wild dares; and Ryan, a man who lives life cautiously, guarding his heart from the bruises of past loves. Their paths cross one evening by the simplest of circumstances and the boldest of bets. What begins as a challenge spirals into a connection neither of them anticipated.
New onscreen chemistry
The film marks the much-anticipated collaboration between Rhian Ramos and JC Santos, two of the most versatile and critically regarded actors of their generation. While both have led their own successful projects in 2025 — Rhian with Sinagtala and Unconditional, and JC with the upcoming I Remember You and Isang Daang Awit Para Kay Stella — Meg and Ryan gives them a chance to explore uncharted emotional territory together.
For Rhian, working with JC was a revelation. “I really enjoyed the whole experience,” she shares. “Napaka-generous ni JC (JC is so generous) as an actor. If there’s anything he can do to help you in a scene, he will. Hindi lang basta acting ang iko-contribute niya (It is not just about the acting that he contributes to) — he offers insights into the dialogue, too, helping it feel more natural. It made my job so easy.”
JC, for his part, calls the project a dream collaboration. “Si Rhian — bucket list ko talaga siya makatrabaho (To work with Rhian has always been in my bucket list). Now that it’s happening, I’m seeing her process, her dedication. She really gives the truth in every scene.”
Their chemistry isn’t just felt onscreen — it was forged through a shared commitment to storytelling, to building characters that feel real, messy and beautifully human.
The team behind the romance
Meg and Ryan benefits from a seasoned creative team that balances artistic elegance with narrative heart. Cinematographer Eli Balce paints the city and its quiet corners with a luminous warmth, while editors Vanessa Ubas De Leon and Ramil Pasible ensure that every moment lingers just enough to make you feel. The film’s assistant director Ritchie Rono and creative producer Ellis Catrina help bring to life Camarillo’s carefully crafted vision.
With this film, Direk Cathy marks a new milestone: her first solo feature production under her own banner. Having co-directed 2024’s Chances Are You and I (Kelvin Miranda and Kira Balinger) and That Kind of Love (Barbie Forteza and David Licauco), she now steps confidently into full creative control — and the result is a film that feels both tender and true.
Completing the picture
Also appearing in the film are Cedrick Juan, Ces Quesada, Cris Villanueva, Jef Gaitan and an exciting lineup of fresh faces including J-mee Katanyag, Steven Bansil, Poca Osinaga, and Alison Black. Each performance adds texture and dimension to the world of Meg and Ryan, grounding their story in lived-in relationships and emotional depth.
Set to premiere in cinemas nationwide on 6 August, Meg and Ryan is more than a love story — it’s a quiet celebration of unexpected timing, flawed beginnings and the magic that happens when you let go, just long enough, to let someone in.
Because sometimes, love doesn’t knock. It dares you.
