Ai-Ai and Sancho conquer Divisoria

Jefferson Fernando

There’s nothing quite like a good Divisoria run to bring out both the bargain hunter and the storyteller in you — especially if you’re Comedy and Concert Queen Ai-Ai delas Alas.

Over the weekend, Ai-Ai took to social media to share her delightfully chaotic and heartwarming shopping trip with son Sancho Vito. The mother-and-son duo dove into the vibrant maze of Divisoria — and came out not just with cling wrap and aluminum foil, but also with stories only a true Taga-Divi escapade can deliver.

“Masaya ang lakad namin sa Divi,” Ai-Ai wrote, her post brimming with her signature humor and affection. “Tuwang tuwa kami ni Sancho the good son. Kanya-kanyang character ang mga nagtitinda!” she quipped, noting how every stall had its own flair and flavor. From animated vendors to sleepy shopkeepers, it was a comedy of real life on the bustling streets of Manila.

At one stall, Ai-Ai — masked up and blending in — struck up a spontaneous conversation with a vendor who seemed a bit glum. “Sabi ko, ate bakit malungkot ka? Sabi niya, ‘puyat ako.’ Akala ko naman sa work! Noood daw kasi siya ng Chinese series,” she laughed, amused at how roles had reversed. “Diba dapat ang customer ang tsinitsika ng nagtitinda? Ako ang tsumika sa nagtitinda!”

Initially, she recalled, some vendors seemed a bit standoffish. But everything changed when one customer recognized her and asked for a photo. “Nagtanggal ako ng mask — bumait! Parang ewan hahaha!”

Their adventure ended with a joyful shout-out to “Bilog,” the ever-reliable tricycle driver who ferried them back to their distant parking spot, and a special kudos to former Manila Mayor Isko Moreno. “Ang linis na naman daw ng Divi, sabi ng anak ko,” Ai-Ai proudly shared. “Kasi nung pumunta siya na hindi pa si Yorme… ma-duminican republic!” she teased, proving that even a shopping trip can turn into a mini-comedy set.
