The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) has welcomed FUJIFILM Business Innovation as its newest locator, as the Japanese brand announced plans to build a Circular Manufacturing Center (CMC) within the premises of FUJIFILM Optics Philippines Inc. (FOPH) in Laguna.
FOPH, a manufacturing site for imaging equipment within the Fujifilm Group, is set to produce remanufactured multifunction printers to meet the growing demand for sustainable printing solutions across the region.
During the contract signing formalizing the expansion of the FOPH site’s capabilities, PEZA Director General Tereso Panga said, “FUJIFILM has been a valued PEZA locator since 2012, beginning with optical lens manufacturing, then expanding into Instax camera production and, more recently, the assembly of interchangeable lenses.”
Mitsuki Tomono, executive adviser of FUJIFILM Business Innovation Corp., said in a press conference in Makati City on Tuesday that the company plans to remanufacture 5,000 units of FUJIFILM multifunction printers. These units will be sourced from countries currently serviced by the firm, including South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, New Zealand, and Australia.
Construction of the manufacturing plant will begin this month and operations are expected to start by August 2026. The facility will employ at least 50 workers.
“With the launch of its remanufacturing operations, FUJIFILM takes another bold step — making the Philippines its ASEAN hub for circular production. This milestone highlights Japan's enduring confidence in our investment ecosystem and reinforces PEZA's advocacy for sustainable, innovation-driven industrialization,” Panga said.
FOPH has advanced manufacturing technology developed through the assembly of precision equipment, such as interchangeable lenses for digital cameras. It is aptly suited to provide the high-precision manufacturing capabilities required for producing remanufactured multifunction printers.
The company’s skilled personnel, experienced in precision equipment manufacturing, will apply their expertise in assembly techniques and quality control to the new remanufacturing operations. FUJIFILM Business Innovation will also train FOPH staff to become core members of the remanufacturing team.
Since 1995, FUJIFILM Business Innovation has implemented a recycling policy and established a resource circulation system that spans the entire product lifecycle — from planning and development to manufacturing and disposal.
“With the establishment of the CMC in the Philippines as a new production facility to promote resource circulation in the Asia-Pacific region, FUJIFILM Business Innovation accelerates the strengthening of the global production system, the promotion of resource circulation, and the reduction of natural resource input and CO2 emissions,” Tomono said.
