City of San Fernando, Pampanga – The Provincial Government held the first-ever coordination meeting regarding the Integrated Agroforestry Program that aims to answer and implement one of the 14-Point Agenda of Pampanga in terms of Food Security.

In a social media post by the Pampanga Public Information Office on Sunday, the meeting was led by Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda along with various government agencies concerned, addressing the needs of the Kapampangan.

The meeting particularly aims to help Kabalens living in the upland area of Pampanga, ensuring food security in the mountainous areas of the province. Pineda said that they aim to implement steps that is suitable with the effects of climate change or climate change adaptation.

The meeting also aims to push environmental protection as part of the health program.

“Kapag maganda ang kalakaran ng pagtatanim sa upland areas, maganda ang production. Kapag maganda ang production, maganda ang environment, may climate change adaptation. Kaya gustong makuha ni Nanay lahat ng aspeto ay ma-address natin,” Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources Head Engr. Arthur Punsalan said.

Four upland areas including Arayat, Floridablanca, Magalang, and Porac, will become the focal points of the said program.

The said step is part of a broader initiative of the Provincial Government that aims to create a stronger community, safer environment, and enough supply of food for all Kapampangans.

Upland farming in the Philippines is characterized by rainfed agriculture on marginal, often sloping lands with limited infrastructure and resources.

It is a vital source of livelihood for a significant portion of the population, but faces challenges like soil erosion, water scarcity, and vulnerability to climate change.
