Seasoned visual artists Angelito “Jo” Florendo and Will Ignacio join forces in Shared Emotions, an exhibit featuring more than five dozen of their signature works.

Presented by Old Manila Gallery at the Art Center of SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City and curated by Marila Burgos, the exhibit will run from 15 to 26 July. A major showcase with both artists presenting 35 works each, Shared Emotions represents the best of Florendo and Ignacio, who are self-taught, prolific figures in the contemporary Philippine art scene.

Florendo will bring to the fore his signature koi series, along with his renditions of colorful landscapes, and striking waterscapes. Inspired by the environment of the Sierra Madre Mountain Range and nature as a whole, his pieces also reflect his passion for symbols of auspiciousness.

His lightheartedness and positive outlook shine through his vibrant color choices, infusing his works with energy and life. Florendo’s creations exhibit a unique artistic voice and convey the resilience and vitality of nature amidst modern-day challenges.

Ignacio, meanwhile, will showcase his deep appreciation for the artistry and cultural importance of the barong Tagalog, the Philippines’ iconic national attire. In his works, it serves both as canvas and accent, highlighting its craftsmanship and symbolism. He transforms the garment into a powerful artistic medium, crafting compositions that evoke unity in diversity.

Aside from the barong Tagalog, Ignacio also incorporates other Philippine textiles as his canvas, reimagining traditional materials through his distinctive lens and subject matter.

Together, Florendo and Ignacio will offer a vibrant tribute to the ever-evolving landscape of Philippine art. Their works celebrate the country’s natural beauty and cultural heritage — rich, colorful and deeply rooted in tradition. This exhibition stands as a testament to the creativity and diversity of Filipino artistry.
