The University of the Philippines (UP) Manila is set to offer a certificate course in medical imaging and health informatics to radiographers and medical officers.

The Asia Pacific Healthcare Informatics and Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) Administrator certificate course will run from 26 to 30 July.

Conducted in collaboration with the FUJIFILM Asia Pacific Healthcare Learning Academy (UP-FAHLA), the program aims to deliver cutting-edge education, research, and industry collaboration to empower healthcare professionals to drive innovations that improve patient outcomes and advance digital imaging across the region.

The course, developed in partnership with Thailand's Mahidol University, will be delivered in two levels:

Level 1 – Healthcare informatics foundation – will acquaint students with health information systems (HIS) and electronic health records (EHR) implementation, data standards, privacy protocols, and patient safety.

Level 2 – Digital imaging and medical imaging informatics foundation – will cover radiology information systems and PACS, digital imaging, medical imaging informatics, image quality and artifacts, risk management in a digital environment, healthcare information integration, and patient dose assessment in digital imaging.

According to UP Manila, the program will help students gain specialized skills in digital imaging and advanced image management. Radiographers, hospital administrators, and information technology (IT) personnel are encouraged to take the Level 2 course.

Level 1 is scheduled for 26 July with an enrollment fee of P5,000. Level 2 will take place from 28 to 30 July with a fee of P15,000. Experts from UP Manila and Mahidol University will teach the course, which is limited to 50 students per level.

This certificate course is the first to be offered following a Memorandum of Understanding signed between UP Manila and FUJIFILM Healthcare Asia Pacific (HCAP) on 27 March to establish the UP-FAHLA Center for Advanced Healthcare Informatics.

The center is hosted at the Medical Informatics Unit (MIU) of the UP Manila College of Medicine.

Graduates of the course will receive a joint certificate from UP Manila and Mahidol University.

Chancellor Michael Tee said the certification course is "part of the University's commitment to empower the nation's healthcare officers by giving them quality and advanced medical education using the latest technology."

The UP-FAHLA Center for Advanced Healthcare Informatics was established to serve as a regional hub for healthcare informatics training, equipping healthcare and IT professionals across Asia-Pacific with essential skills for the digital transformation of modern healthcare.

FUJIFILM Healthcare is a leading provider of innovative diagnostic imaging solutions such as MRI and CT machines, endoscopy machines, digital X-ray and mammography systems, and diagnostic ultrasound.
