The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has summoned the registered owner and driver of a Porsche caught using a cellphone while driving on the highway, a violation that has gone viral on social media.

LTO chief Assistant Secretary Vigor D. Mendoza II said the driver was apparently filming content for social media while operating the luxury vehicle.

“This is a clear violation of road safety rules,” Mendoza said. “No matter what kind of car you drive, you must still follow traffic laws. If the driver is a content creator, he has a responsibility to set a good example.”

The LTO has already suspended the driver’s license for 90 days pending the results of its investigation.

A show cause order, signed by LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division Chief Renante Melitante, stated that the driver may face at least three charges: reckless driving, violation of the Anti-Distracted Driving Act (Section 4 of Republic Act 10913), and being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle (Section 27[a] of Republic Act 4136).

The last offense carries a maximum penalty of license revocation.

Both the car’s registered owner and the driver were ordered to appear at the LTO Central Office and provide a written explanation as to why they should not be held administratively liable.

The Porsche has also been placed under alarm status.

Mendoza said the enforcement action follows the directive of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to go after violators who endanger public safety on the road.
