Chery Tiggo clawed back from a set down and outlasted Capital1 in a tightly contested extended fourth frame to score a 20-25, 25-23, 25-12, 28-26, debut win in Pool B of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) On Tour Saturday at the Ynares Center-Montalban.

Crossover veteran winger Ces Robles came up with the clutch hits in the closing stretch of the fourth frame to spoil the still winless Solar Spikers’ attempt to send the match into a decider.

The outside hitter smashed 15 of his 17 points off kills and added nine digs for Chery Tiggo, which received 28 free points off Capital1’s errors.

Jyne Soreno, the eighth overall pick in the recent Draft, made her presence felt with all but one of her 15 markers coming off kills while fellow rookie Renee Penafiel added 11 points and five excellent receptions for the Crossovers.

Other first year players Erika Deloria and Reyann Canete contributed a combined six points in their debuts. Imee Hernandez returned to action after recovering from a knee injury and added eight points for Chery Tiggo.

“Happy we won. It was a very tense game. Our rookies performed well with the support of the seniors. Personally, I’m happy to see that we’re able to show in the game the things we’ve been working during training. But of course, we want to meet the level of the game that we wanted,” Crossovers coach Norman Miguel said.

“But it’s just our first game. So we’re still in the process of trying to reach that level,” the mentor added.

Robles sparked a personal 4-1 rally as Chery Tiggo erased a three-point deficit and leveled the fourth set at 20.

It was a tug-of-war from there before Capital1 reached set point, 24-23. Pauline Gaston forced a deuce in the next play, only for Sydney Niegos to pull the Solar Spikers back at set point advantage.
