Dinalupihan, Bataan – The Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) Central Luzon is conducting a five-day Training on Nutrient and Soil Health Management at the Regional Training Center III (RTC III) in Barangay San Ramon.
The training began on 30 June and will run until 4 July 2025, with participants composed mostly of agricultural extension workers (AEWs) from various municipalities across Central Luzon.
According to ATI Central Luzon, the first two days focused on topics such as soil fertility, soil productivity, soil health, and soil analysis. Participants attended lectures and engaged in both indoor and outdoor activities.
The resource person on the first day, Jayson S. Baldoz, highlighted key concepts of soil science, its importance, and the interconnectedness of soil fertility, productivity, and quality.
On the second day, Justine O. Estabillo discussed the importance of proper soil collection and soil analysis through field demonstrations using the Soil Test Kit (STK). This was followed by a hands-on activity on soil sampling, soil testing analysis, and the Minus One Element Technique, held at D’Planners Farm and facilitated by Hannah Beatrice D. Medina.
Nutrient and soil health management focuses on optimizing plant nutrition while maintaining or improving soil quality. It involves ensuring the right amount of nutrients are available to plants at the right time and place, while minimizing negative environmental impact.
This holistic approach emphasizes that healthy soil is essential for sustainable agriculture, influencing not only crop yields but also environmental health and overall food security.
