Marikina City First District Rep. Marcelino "Marcy" Teodoro has vowed to prioritize legislation addressing the city’s perennial flooding through the continuous dredging of the Marikina River and the construction of more pumping stations.
Teodoro said his wife, Marikina City Mayor Marjorie Ann "Maan" Teodoro, recently visited the Marikina River to inspect the completion of the slope protection and flood mitigation project supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
"The city government also has its counterpart in the ongoing dredging efforts. This is an important project to prevent or at least reduce flooding," Teodoro said in an interview Tuesday afternoon.
Teodoro, who served as Marikina mayor for three consecutive terms, added that they are completing the construction of a pumping station in Barangay Malanday.
"Mayor Maan requested that we follow up on the completion of the pumping station in Barangay Malanday. If the project is delayed, the protection that people need against floods—along with their property and livelihoods—will all be at risk," the newly proclaimed lawmaker said.
A former congressman of the same district, Teodoro said his priority legislative agenda includes a Magna Carta for barangay health workers, a national land use plan, and amendments to the technical education program.
"These are related to education and health—two things that are very important for Filipinos today. Also, job creation and strengthening small and medium enterprises," he said.
