There is a big possibility that other “big names” could be implicated in the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of “sabungeros” (cockfight enthusiasts), Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said Monday.
Remulla’s remarks came amid new developments in the controversial case, particularly after the name of actress Gretchen Barretto surfaced in connection with a witness identified as “Alias Totoy.”
“Statement pa lang, parang hindi pa affidavit, hindi pa yata fully sworn, wala pa ako nakita na pirma. But he had probably have one already,” Remulla said when asked about the status of whistleblower 'Totoy's' affidavit.
Remulla was also asked about reports linking Barretto to the case, allegedly identifying her as an “alpha member” in connection to the missing sabungeros.
In a cautious response, Remulla said: “I cannot comment on that yet kasi we have to validate a lot of this things.”
When pressed on whether other celebrities were also involved, he said: “Basta there are others,” without elaborating on names or details.
Remulla also gave an update on the efforts to search for potential remains of the missing individuals in Taal Lake. He confirmed that the Department of Justice has officially requested assistance from Japan.
“We just sent a letter to Japan, but we will get equipment from Bureau of Mines and Geosciences, here at DENR we have our own since we still need mapping facilities, kailangan mamap ang lake bed,” Remulla said, underscoring the need for specialized equipment.
As for the timeline, Remulla simply said, “ASAP,” signaling the urgency to resolve the long-running mystery.
