Nine Koreans nabbed for online fraud in Parañaque

Alvin Murcia

Combined elements of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Bureau of Immigration (BI) arrested nine Korean nationals in Parañaque City for online fraud schemes on 25 June 2025.

Pursuant to a mission order, operatives from the NBI-Organized and Transnational Crimes Division (NBI-OTCD) and the Bureau of Immigration-Fugitive Search Unit (BI-FSU) conducted a law enforcement operation in a condominium unit in Parañaque City, leading to the discovery of the nine Korean nationals inside.

The suspects were found operating computer workstations running multiple applications displaying foreign-language scripts and user interfaces typically associated with financial transactions and online communication platforms.

The configuration and real-time activity of these systems raised reasonable suspicion of involvement in online loan fraud schemes.

The arrested individuals were identified as Han Jaeseong, Lee Hyunwoo, Kwon Yeon Ji, Park Kwangjun, Kim Heejun, Jeong Seongae, Bae Sehwan, Ryu Juhsang, and Kim Youngseop.

They were taken into custody by the BI-FSU and are currently under temporary detention at the NBI-OTCD office.

Upon completion of standard booking and documentation procedures, they will be turned over to the Bureau of Immigration Warden Facility (BIWF) for safekeeping.

The suspects underwent inquest proceedings conducted by the Bureau of Immigration for violations of the Philippine Immigration Act of 1940, as amended.
